As Global Asbestos Awareness Week draws to a close, DDS Environmental contemplates and summarises the notorious topic…
Asbestos. The hidden killer.
Despite the highly toxic mineral being present all around us having been used in a variety of items for decades (including many domestic uses) the numbers killed are still over 5,000 per annum in the UK alone, however discussions regarding the dangers still seem to be limited.
Asbestos fibres, when released into the air can enter your lungs and can damage both the lungs themselves and their lining. The effects of exposure are not always immediate and can take years to show up, often resulting in a multitude of respiratory illnesses and also Mesothelioma, an aggressive and deadly form of Cancer.
To highlight and subsequently educate the public to the dangers of Asbestos, the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organisation (ADAO) sponsor a week long awareness campaign called the Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) which runs from 1st – 7th April every year.
DDS Environmental is committed to highlighting the risks associated with Asbestos therefore support the campaign by encouraging everyone to inform themselves, their businesses and their communities by following the campaign.
To increase asbestos awareness, we minimise the risk of exposure.
